Dear Ms. Robbins,
I am a first year Journalism student at Mohawk College looking for an internship at the Hamilton Spectator. The Spec is the only major newspaper published in Hamilton and has a daily readership of about 260,000. It is an excellent news source. It lacks though, in terms of being able to connect to its readers through other mediums. Your paper has a great website, however it’s other pages such as Facebook and twitter could use some help. As mentioned above you have a large readership. Out of that readership there are only 1200 people that are on your Facebook page and 2427. I did not know of the existence of the twitter until I searched it as it was located at the bottom of your webpage.
I can help your newspaper with in those aspects. I have good skills with Social Networking. I was able to create and maintain a Facebook page for my high-school without being allowed to advertise it in school. As well I have a youtube channel with almost 1 million views. I would be able to aide you in reaching out to your readers through different mediums. This can greatly help in possible increased readership and rapid feedback. I will be able to benefit your company.
I have other qualifications that will help with working at the Spectator. I was treasurer for student council in high-school. Besides counting money, I was also in charge of organizing and posting all advertisement for every event. We had constant and instant feedback on everything because we connected to the school through many formats.
I hope you shall consider me for internship after reviewing my resume as well. Is it possible to be able to meet with you to discuss my my qualifications and opportunities at the Specator?
